Why choose Turin for your road trip

Turin — a city worth exploring

Torino's Mole Antonelliana, standing 167.5 metres tall, was the world's tallest brick building when completed in 1889 and now houses the National Museum of Cinema. The city sits at the confluence of the Dora Riparia and Po rivers, framed by the western Alps — a dramatic backdrop that shapes every journey in and out of the area. Wander through the Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio), home to the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities outside Cairo, or explore the sprawling grounds of the Reggia di Venaria Reale, a UNESCO-listed royal residence just north of the centre. The Parco del Valentino stretches along the Po and offers green space ideal for a morning stroll before hitting the road. From Torino, the Langhe wine region is roughly 60 km south, while the French border at the Fréjus Tunnel lies about 95 km to the west — both easy drives in a campervan. The city's wide boulevards and ring-road system make navigating with a motorhome more straightforward than in many Italian cities. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner in the Torino area, which means flexible pick-up points across different neighbourhoods and honest tips on the best routes into the Alps or down to the Ligurian coast. It is a practical, personal way to start your next Italian road trip.

Best time to visit

Torino welcomes visitors comfortably from April through October. The Salone del Gusto / Terra Madre food festival, held every two years in autumn, draws food lovers from across Europe, while the Torino Film Festival each November fills the city with cinema fans. Summer is the busiest season for campervan travel — book early on Yescapa to lock in competitive peer-to-peer rates from local owners. Spring and early autumn bring pleasant driving temperatures and quieter campsites around the Langhe and Alpine valleys, making them ideal for a relaxed motorhome trip. Whenever you visit, Torino rewards the curious.

Top getaways from Turin

Turin is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways

Torino to the Langhe

60km south 1–4 days

Head 60 km south from Torino into the rolling Langhe hills. Stop in Alba for its truffle market and medieval towers, then continue to Barolo to visit the WiMu wine museum. Campervan-friendly parking areas dot the villages, and many agriturismos welcome overnight stays. Allow two to three days to savour the local Nebbiolo wines and hazelnut groves at a relaxed pace.

Torino to Sacra di San Michele and Susa Valley

80km northwest 1–3 days

Drive 80 km north-west from Torino along the Susa Valley. The Sacra di San Michele abbey perches dramatically above the valley entrance — arrive early for easier parking. Continue to the town of Susa to see the Arch of Augustus and the cathedral. Motorhome service areas are available in Avigliana and Susa. A perfect one- to two-day escape into Alpine foothills.

Torino to Genova and the Ligurian Coast

130km southeast 3–6 days

Cover 130 km south-east from Torino to reach Genova and the Ligurian Sea. Explore the Acquario di Genova, one of Europe's largest aquariums, and stroll through the caruggi alleyways of the old port. From Genova, the coastal road towards Camogli and Portofino offers memorable views. Campervan parking fills quickly in summer along the coast, so plan stops in advance.

Torino to Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands

150km northeast 3–6 days

Travel 150 km north-east from Torino to Lake Maggiore. Visit the Borromean Islands — Isola Bella's baroque palace and Isola Madre's botanical gardens are highlights. The lakeside town of Stresa makes a great base, with several campsites offering direct lake access. A motorhome-friendly route runs along the western shore. Three to five days let you explore Verbania and Arona too.

Torino to Lake Garda via Milan

280km east 5–8 days

Set off 280 km east from Torino towards Lake Garda, stopping in Milan to see the Duomo and the Navigli canals. Continue east to Sirmione, where the Scaliger Castle juts into the lake. Desenzano del Garda and Lazise both have well-equipped campsites with pitches for larger vehicles. A week gives you time to enjoy the lake's eastern shore and the hills around Bardolino.

Torino to the Cinque Terre

350km south 5–8 days

Drive 350 km south from Torino to the Cinque Terre, passing through the Langhe and the Ligurian Apennines. Park your campervan at La Spezia — the five villages are best reached by train from there, as roads are narrow and restricted. Explore Riomaggiore, Manarola and Vernazza on foot. Campsites near Levanto and La Spezia offer good facilities. Five to seven days allow detours to Lerici and Portovenere.

Where to park your motorhome

Torino has several options for parking a campervan or motorhome, though overnight rules vary by zone. The city centre is largely a ZTL (limited traffic zone), so larger vehicles should stick to designated areas outside this perimeter. Overnight parking in a motorhome is generally permitted where regular parking is allowed, provided you do not deploy awnings or stabilisers. Always check local signage for height and weight restrictions before stopping.

  • Parcheggio Stadio Olimpico, 2km southwest — Large open-air car park near the Olympic Stadium with space for motorhomes. Free on non-event days, well connected by tram to the centre.
  • Parcheggio Caio Mario, 3km west — Flat surface car park in the Pozzo Strada area. Suitable for campervans, with nearby supermarkets and bus connections to the city centre.
  • Parcheggio Stura, 6km north — Park-and-ride facility near the Stura metro station. Ample space for larger vehicles, free parking, and direct metro access to the centre.

It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!

It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
