Bergamo's Città Alta sits 300 metres above the Lombardy plain, encircled by 6 km of 16th-century Venetian walls now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A funicular railway connects the lower town to this hilltop quarter, where the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and the Cappella Colleoni display centuries of artistic craftsmanship. Down in Città Bassa, the Accademia Carrara houses over 1,800 paintings, including works by Botticelli and Raphael. For a change of pace, the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo offers 4,700 hectares of green trails ideal for a morning walk before hitting the road. Lake Iseo lies just 30 km to the east, while Milan is roughly 60 km to the south-west, making Bergamo a brilliant base for exploring northern Italy at your own rhythm. The surrounding roads wind through gentle foothills and vineyard-covered slopes, well suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the Bergamo area, which means flexible pick-up points and a personal touch — often with insider tips on the best routes and overnight spots. A campervan from a fellow traveller is one of the easiest ways to discover this corner of Lombardy.
Bergamo welcomes visitors comfortably from April through October. Spring is ideal for exploring the Città Alta on foot, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds at the funicular. In June, the Bergamo Jazz Festival fills the old town with live performances across intimate venues. Summer opens up the nearby lakes for swimming stops between drives, while September brings the Festa di Sant'Alessandro on 26 August and harvest events across the Franciacorta wine region. Booking a campervan through Yescapa during shoulder months like May or September often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer rates. Whichever month you choose, Bergamo rewards a relaxed pace.

In Bergamo, it is best to park your motorhome or campervan in the Città Bassa, as the Città Alta is restricted for larger vehicles. Several supervised car parks offer ample space and good connections to the funicular. Overnight stays in your vehicle are generally not permitted in public car parks — use designated motorhome areas or nearby campsites instead.
Great camper with all the necessary bits to enjoy off grid or plug in. Naiara and Miguel were very helpful and managed to communicate well with us, even though we didn't speak Spanish. They were extremely kind and considerate throughout the trip and responded quickly to any messages or queries. Llanes is a beautiful place to start your journey- we went up to Somiedo, in the mountains, and then spent a few days back by the sea.
If you’re looking for the perfect camper van, look no further! Sylvia’s van exceeded all of our expectations. It was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and equipped with absolutely everything we could possibly need. You can immediately tell how much care and attention Sylvia puts into making sure her guests have the best possible experience. What really made the difference was Sylvia herself. She was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and always quick to respond, making us feel supported from the moment we booked until the end of our trip. Thanks to her amazing van, we had an unforgettable adventure and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We would happily rent from Sylvia again and recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a reliable host and a fantastic camper van.
I loved tripping around the island with this van. It is equipped with many accessories as described, and some basic food condiments to get you started. Sleeping was comfortable, and handling the van itself too!
Jack and his girlfriend were amazing. The communication with them was really smooth and they took really good care of the van. Would welcome them again anytime and would recommend them to anyone!
The camper van is super confortable with everything you might need along your stay. The beds are super comfy and kitchen and bathroom are very well equipped. Diana also helped us with recommendations and was super kind and attentive to our messages! Thanks Diana :)
We had a fantastic trip in Joao's campervan. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. Every window has a mosquito screen, making it very easy to ventilate the van. It is also a very pleasant and reliable vehicle; we had no trouble driving up steep roads. It is an excellent campervan for 'off-grid' travel, as it comes with hot water, a large fridge, a toilet, ample water, and a large gas supply. We also never had any issues with the electricity, thanks to the solar panel. All windows can be blacked out at night. We highly recommend Joao's campervan. Communication was smooth throughout, too! Thank you very much!
