Why choose Milan for your road trip

Milan — a city worth exploring

Milano's Duomo cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete, with construction beginning in 1386 and the final details finished only in 1965. This extraordinary city in Lombardy blends historic architecture with modern design, making it a rewarding base for exploring northern Italy by campervan. Wander through the Pinacoteca di Brera, home to masterpieces by Raphael and Caravaggio, or spend an afternoon at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, Italy's largest science museum. The Navigli district, with its canal-side restaurants and weekend markets, offers a relaxed contrast to the grandeur of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Lake Como sits just 50 km to the north, while the medieval towers of Bergamo are only 56 km to the northeast — both easy day trips by motorhome. Milano's flat terrain and well-connected ring roads make navigating a larger vehicle straightforward, and the surrounding Po Valley opens up routes in every direction. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner in the Milano area, often picking up your vehicle from a convenient neighbourhood rather than a distant depot. This peer-to-peer approach means more choice, competitive pricing, and personal tips from someone who knows the region well.

Best time to visit

Milano welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering its own appeal. Spring is ideal for exploring the city and nearby lakes, and the Salone del Mobile in April draws design enthusiasts from across the globe. Summer opens up longer days for road trips into the Alps, while autumn brings the grape harvest season across Lombardy's vineyards. December transforms Milano with festive markets around Piazza Duomo and the celebrated opera season opening at Teatro alla Scala on 7 December. Booking a campervan through Yescapa gives you access to peer-to-peer pricing, which can be especially helpful during popular periods. Plan ahead for spring and summer to secure the best choice of vehicles in the Milano area.

Pepe was lovely from beginning to end. All of our requests were accommodated and he was responsive when needed. The pickup service was very nice, even though we were a bit delayed at the beginning (also around 23.30) he still patiently waited for us at the airport without a hassle. This made the beginning of the trip very nice and the small gift was consumed almost immediately, thank you once again. ;) The van was super also, the bad is very very comfy, I am 183 cms and it was perfect for my height. The AC is a very nice addition also, which made even the staying in the blazing sun bearable in the van. Would recommend both the host and the van to anyone!

We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.

Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.

We had a great Motorhome Experience in the Dordogne area in France! Guy’s motorhome had everything we needed for a comfortable and adventurous stay. A great kingsize bed (for a motorhome anyway…) and large fridge, warm water, heating everything is there. If you’re looking for a reliable modern motorhome rental , we highly recommend renting Guy’s motorhome. Marian & Wim.
