Zagreb's Museum of Broken Relationships, founded in 2006, remains the only museum in the world dedicated entirely to failed love stories and their remnants. The Croatian capital blends Austro-Hungarian architecture with a lively café culture that spills across Ban Jelačić Square and into the cobbled lanes of the Upper Town. Wander through the Zagreb Cathedral, whose twin spires rise 108 metres above Kaptol, or explore the Croatian National Theatre, an ornate neo-baroque building dating back to 1895. The Mirogoj Cemetery, often considered one of Europe's most beautiful burial grounds, sits just 3 km north of the city centre. Nature lovers will appreciate Maksimir Park, a sprawling 316-hectare green space perfect for a morning walk before hitting the road. Zagreb is well positioned for wider exploration — the Plitvice Lakes are roughly 130 km to the southwest, while the Slovenian capital Ljubljana lies just 140 km to the northwest, making cross-border day trips entirely doable. The terrain around Zagreb is gentle and well-suited to larger vehicles, with wide motorways connecting the city to the Adriatic coast and the Pannonian plains. Hiring a campervan or motorhome through Yescapa means you can pick up directly from a local owner in Zagreb, often saving on depot fees while getting first-hand tips on where to go. With a campervan from a nearby owner, you start your Croatian adventure right from the heart of the city.
Zagreb comes alive from May to September, when outdoor terraces fill the Upper Town and festivals take over the streets. The INmusic Festival, held each June on the island of Lake Jarun, draws music fans from across Europe and is easy to reach with a campervan parked nearby. In December, Zagreb's Advent market transforms Ban Jelačić Square and the surrounding streets into one of Europe's most celebrated winter markets, running from late November through early January. Spring and autumn bring comfortable driving conditions and quieter campsites around the city. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa during shoulder months often means more choice from local owners and better rates, so plan ahead for summer if you prefer peak-season energy.
Zagreb is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 60 km northwest from Zagreb to Kumrovec, the birthplace of Josip Broz Tito. Visit the Staro Selo Museum, an open-air ethnographic village, and explore the rolling hills of Zagorje. Stop at Trakošćan Castle along the way for lakeside views. Campervan parking is easy at the museum grounds.
Drive 75 km southeast from Zagreb to Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, one of Europe's largest wetlands. Spot white storks nesting on rooftops in the village of Čigoč and walk the wooden boardwalks through flooded oak forests. Krapje village offers traditional Posavina architecture. Motorhome-friendly parking is available at the park entrance.
Travel 130 km southwest from Zagreb to Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site with 16 terraced lakes connected by waterfalls. Stop in Slunj to see the Rastoke mills, where rivers cascade through the village. Campervan pitches are available at campsites near the park's Entrance 1. Book early in summer for the best spots.
Head 180 km southwest from Zagreb to Rijeka, Croatia's largest port city and gateway to the Kvarner Gulf. Explore Trsat Castle perched above the city and the lively Korzo promenade. Continue to the coastal town of Opatija for seaside walks along the Lungomare. Motorhome parking is available at designated areas near the harbour.
Cover 270 km southeast from Zagreb to Split, where Diocletian's Palace forms the living heart of the old town. Along the way, stop at Trogir, a UNESCO-listed island town, and hike in Cetina River canyon near Omiš. The A1 motorway makes the drive smooth for larger vehicles. Campervan-friendly campsites line the coast south of Split.
Set off 390 km southeast from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, following the Adriatic coast through some of Croatia's finest scenery. Visit Šibenik's Cathedral of St James and the Pelješac Peninsula for oyster tasting in Ston. The coastal road narrows in places, so allow extra time. Campervan pitches at Camping Solitudo sit right on Dubrovnik's Babin Kuk peninsula.

Zagreb itself is an inland city, but the surrounding area offers a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites are located in the green belt north and south of the city, with facilities ranging from basic pitches with electrical hook-ups to full-service sites with showers, toilets, Wi-Fi, and waste disposal points. Several campsites sit near thermal springs, giving you a chance to relax after a day of exploring Zagreb.
Parking a motorhome or campervan in Zagreb requires some planning, as the city centre has limited space for larger vehicles. Most central streets use a zoned pay-and-display system, but height and length restrictions apply in many garages. Overnight parking in public spaces is generally tolerated outside the central zones, though dedicated motorhome areas are the safest option. Always check local signage for time limits and vehicle size restrictions before leaving your vehicle.
Sofia and Joaqim were really lovely! We enjoyed our trip a lot. The van was clean and had everything that was listed. We had no troubles with anything, it was super easy, convenient and cosy place to stay. We can honestly recommend it. 🥰❤️
It was our first time traveling with a camper, and renting this one for our trip around Mallorca turned out to be an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience that exceeded all our expectations. The camper was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped, which made our first camper trip easy and enjoyable. Communication with Gustavo was excellent from start to finish. He always responded very quickly, was friendly and helpful, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. He also shared some fantastic recommendations for places to visit and park around the island, which made our trip even better. We couldn't have asked for a better first camper experience and would highly recommend both the camper and Gustavo to anyone planning a trip to Mallorca. We would happily rent it again in the future!
It was perfect. The owner is a very nice guy who picked us up from Funchal to get to Machico and explained everything about the car. The car included everything that was needed for our roadtrip. The tent is spacious and the amenities were of good quality. Overall it was an amazing experience to enjoy the island this way!
Great communication from Gladys and great van! Thanks for making our trip seamless!
Nice car, friendly and helpful people
