Western Austria's Grossglockner High Alpine Road climbs to 2,504 metres, making it the highest surfaced mountain pass road in the country and one of Europe's most spectacular driving experiences. This region stretches across the provinces of Tyrol, Vorarlberg, and Salzburgerland, offering a remarkable mix of alpine valleys, glacial lakes, and historic towns. From Innsbruck to Salzburg, a distance of roughly 190 km, the landscape shifts from dramatic mountain passes to rolling green meadows. Head west from Innsbruck to Bregenz on Lake Constance, about 200 km, and you will pass through the Arlberg region, home to the famous Arlberg Pass and the Arlberg Road Tunnel. Key stops include the medieval old town of Hall in Tirol, the Swarovski Crystal Worlds near Wattens, the Krimml Waterfalls — Austria's tallest at 380 metres — and the fortress of Hohensalzburg perched above Salzburg. The roads here wind through wide valleys and over well-maintained passes, with plenty of designated motorhome stopovers and campsites along the way. Whether you prefer a compact campervan for nimble mountain driving or a larger motorhome for family comfort, Yescapa connects you directly with local owners across western Austria. This peer-to-peer approach means you can pick up your campervan close to where your adventure begins, saving time and making the most of every day on the road.
The best time to hire a campervan in western Austria is from late May to early October, when alpine passes like the Grossglockner are fully open. June brings the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, while July sees the Salzburg Festival fill the city with world-class performances. Summer months offer the longest days for exploring mountain routes, and campsites across the region operate at full capacity with all facilities available. For quieter roads and golden autumn colours, September is ideal. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months often means better peer-to-peer rates and wider vehicle choice across western Austria.

Western Austria offers a wide network of campsites spread across alpine valleys, lakeshores, and mountain foothills. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a full-size motorhome, you will find pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, and modern sanitary facilities. Many sites in western Austria sit beside rivers or lakes, giving you direct access to swimming, hiking, and cycling right from your pitch.
Western Austria uses a motorway vignette system — you will need a valid toll sticker for all Autobahn and Schnellstrasse routes. Digital vignettes can be purchased online before your trip. Some alpine tunnels and roads, such as the Arlberg Tunnel and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, charge separate tolls. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes use the GO-Box electronic toll system instead. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on motorways. Mountain passes often have lower limits and gradient warnings, so keep an eye on signage.
Todo súper bien, furgo fantástica y totalmente equipada !
Everything amazing )
Simone and his partner were very nice and friendly, eager to get to know everything about the motorhome. They were very attentive and considerate during the handover, as well as easy to communicate with throughout their trip. They treated my motorhome with care and respect and certainly did their best to return it in the condition in which they received it. It was a pleasure having them as my guests, and I highly recommend them to other owners.
It was a perfect RV for our trip to see the solar eclipse. And Conrado is a very pleasant man to communicate with. I highly recommend him and his car 👍
