Victoria is home to the Great Ocean Road, a 243-kilometre stretch of coastal highway built by returned soldiers after World War I, making it the world's largest war memorial. From Melbourne's laneways to the Twelve Apostles limestone stacks, this compact state packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into a relatively small area. The drive from Melbourne to Mildura in the northwest covers around 550 kilometres, crossing golden wheat fields and the Murray River region, while heading east from Melbourne to Mallacoota near the New South Wales border is roughly 520 kilometres through lush Gippsland forests. Victoria's alpine region around Mount Hotham and Falls Creek offers year-round appeal, and the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park draws walkers and wildlife enthusiasts to its sandstone ridges and Aboriginal rock art sites. The Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island, both within easy reach of Melbourne, provide coastal camping with penguin parades and local wineries to explore. For campervan travellers, Victoria's well-maintained road network and relatively short distances between towns make it ideal for flexible touring. Motorhome-friendly stops are plentiful, with dump points and rest areas spread across the state. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners based across Victoria, giving you a wider choice of vehicles and the personal tips that only a local can share.
Victoria's peak touring season runs from December to February, when long daylight hours open up coastal and alpine routes alike. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival in March and April draws visitors from around the world, and autumn colours through the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges make April to May a rewarding time for a campervan trip. Winter brings snow to the High Country, while spring wildflowers carpet the Grampians from September. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months like October or March often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer pricing from local owners across Victoria.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travellers.
Follow 280 km of Victoria's famous coastline from Torquay to Allansford over 3–6 days. Stop at the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, with well-equipped campervan sites at Apollo Bay and Port Campbell along the way.
A 250 km loop through the Grampians (Gariwerd) over 3–5 days. Explore Halls Gap, the Pinnacle lookout, and MacKenzie Falls. Campgrounds suit both campervans and motorhomes, with powered sites at Halls Gap.
Cover 420 km over 5–8 days through Victoria's southeast. Visit Tidal River at Wilsons Promontory and the Ninety Mile Beach before reaching Lakes Entrance. Motorhome dump points are well spaced along the South Gippsland Highway.
This 350 km route through Victoria's northeast takes 5–8 days, passing Bright, Mount Buffalo National Park, and the King Valley wine region. Sealed roads suit all vehicle sizes, with scenic campervan stops beside mountain rivers.
A 550 km loop over 7–11 days linking the Bellarine Peninsula, the Shipwreck Coast, and the Otway Ranges. Queenscliff and Warrnambool offer excellent motorhome facilities, and whale watching runs from June to September.
Spend 8–15 days on this 600 km journey from Echuca on the Murray River south through the Goldfields towns of Bendigo and Ballarat to the surf coast. A campervan is ideal for the mix of riverside, bush, and coastal camping.

Victoria offers a wide spread of campsites, from beachfront parks along the Great Ocean Road to bush campgrounds in the Grampians and powered sites in the alpine northeast. Most holiday parks across Victoria provide full hook-ups, dump points, showers, and laundry facilities suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. National park campgrounds tend to be more basic but are set in outstanding natural surroundings with toilets and fire rings.
Victoria's highways are toll-free outside Melbourne, where CityLink and EastLink require an e-tag or pass purchased online before travel. Speed limits for vehicles over 4.5 tonnes, including larger motorhomes, are generally capped at 100 km/h on freeways rather than the standard 110 km/h. The state's road network is well signposted, with regular rest areas featuring toilets and picnic tables along major routes like the Princes Highway and the Western Freeway. Some alpine roads, including the Great Alpine Road to Mount Hotham, have seasonal chain requirements in winter, so check conditions before setting off in a campervan or motorhome.
The caravan is easy to handle and very comfortable.
We booked the van for our time on Crete and had a really beautiful trip :) We explored the south of the island and loved every moment of it. The van was easy to drive, comfy and homey, and everything was just as pictured. Beforehand we received videos that explained and showed us everything, so we felt well prepared from the start. Everything fit and worked perfectly. Meven was always helpful, friendly and caring in his communication. Thank you so much for the experience, it was a truly magical time :)
Christophe was great to deal with. He responded promptly to all of our queries prior to our journey. The vehicle was exactly as advertised, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Collection and drop-off was easy. The hand-over of the vehicle was comprehensive and we felt confident as we began our journey. We highly recommend!
Brenda si è rivelata disponibile sin dal primo momento. Il van non ci ha dato alcun tipo di problema e ci ha permesso di visitare meravigliosi posti nella parte nord dell’isola regalandoci albe e tramonti indimenticabili. Super consigliato! ☀️
We couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with YesCapa! A-Z, just great. Claudio was very kind and friendly, texting on the app and when we met at the pick-up. The review of the car was easy going, no rush at all, yet felt very professional. From the formal, general information to the little specs and hacks that would improve our trip. Claudio also gave us tips and recommendations for our route and even offered to store some of our luggage so our trip will be more convenient- Thanks! The car is very easy and smooth to drive. Highways or a gravel road to camp, runs perfectly. We didn’t have a single problem. Another great feature is that it’s practically a private so no problem parking it anywhere, including zones where motorhomes and towable home are not aloud. As for the “home” aspect of the car, it takes a day or two to get the hang of the transformations. Personally, I’m an “analog” person and prefer to push/pull until I hear the ‘click’. Once or twice and everything worked fine. The inside table, Kitchen, fridge, pop-up roof, bed and more. We cooked every day of our trip, very functional. Claudio and Pamela were easy-going and welcoming on our return to the drop-off the car. To sum it up, If you’re in for a classic and smooth experience for your trip, we highly recommend renting Claudio and Pamela’s Vito!
