Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Setúbal Peninsula

Setúbal Peninsula — a region worth exploring

The Península de Setúbal stretches across 170 square kilometres of protected parkland within the Arrábida Natural Park, where limestone cliffs drop sharply into turquoise waters along the Atlantic coast. From the port city of Setúbal, known for its fresh grilled fish and bustling Mercado do Livramento, to the golden dunes of Praia da Figueirinha, this peninsula rewards slow, exploratory travel. The drive from Setúbal to Sesimbra covers roughly 26 km of winding coastal road, while the route from Setúbal south to Alcácer do Sal spans about 60 km through cork oak forests and rice paddies along the Sado Estuary. Birdwatchers flock to the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado, home to a resident population of bottlenose dolphins, and history enthusiasts can explore the Castelo de Palmela perched high above the surrounding vineyards. The Península de Setúbal also produces the celebrated Moscatel de Setúbal dessert wine, and several estates welcome visitors for tastings. Travelling by campervan gives you the freedom to linger at quiet beaches or park up near a vineyard for the afternoon. A motorhome offers extra comfort for families wanting to combine coast and countryside in a single trip. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the Península de Setúbal, choosing from a wide range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style — a peer-to-peer approach that keeps things personal and flexible.

Best time to visit

The Península de Setúbal enjoys a long travel season from April through October, with warm days ideal for coastal drives and beach stops. In late May, the Feira de Santiago in Setúbal fills the city with live music, local food stalls, and traditional crafts. September brings the grape harvest across the Moscatel vineyards, and several estates host open-door tastings. Spring and early autumn offer quieter roads and easy campsite availability, while summer is the most popular period — booking your campervan early on Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer prices and a wider choice of vehicles across the Península de Setúbal.

We had a truly wonderful experience with Tobia and his motorhome. The vehicle was in perfect condition, practically like new, very clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. It was the perfect companion for our summer family trip and gave us everything we needed for a fantastic camping experience. From even before the pick-up, communication with Tobia was excellent. He was always responsive, helpful, and genuinely did his best to solve any issues, provide us with all the information we needed, and take our particular situation into consideration. We really appreciated his kindness and flexibility throughout the whole rental. The motorhome itself was very comfortable to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient, which was a big plus during our long trip. We spent several weeks travelling with it as a family, and it truly made our summer holiday very special and memorable. I would highly recommend both Tobia and this motorhome to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. We would definitely choose this motorhome again for our next trip. Thank you, Tobia, for helping make our family holiday such a great experience!
