Olbia's Costa Smeralda airport handles over three million passengers each year, making it the main gateway to north-east Sardinia. The city itself sits on a natural gulf that has served as a harbour since Phoenician times, and the Basilica di San Simplicio — Sardinia's most important Romanesque church — still anchors the old quarter. Stroll through Corso Umberto I for local shops and cafés, then visit the Museo Archeologico di Olbia on the waterfront island of Peddone, where Roman shipwrecks are displayed in situ. Just outside the centre, the Chiesa di San Paolo crowns a hilltop with its colourful tiled dome. Nature is never far away: the Tavolara Marine Protected Area begins only 15 km to the south-east, while the glamorous beaches of Porto Cervo lie 30 km to the north. Roads along the coast are well-surfaced but can be winding, so a compact campervan gives you the freedom to pull over at quiet coves without worrying about tight bends. For longer explorations inland, a motorhome offers extra comfort on the scenic SS131 towards Nuoro and the Supramonte mountains. With Yescapa you can hire directly from local owners in and around Olbia, which means flexible pick-up points, personal tips on the best beaches, and peer-to-peer prices that suit every budget. It is a practical, friendly way to begin your Sardinian adventure on your own terms.
Olbia enjoys a long warm season that stretches from May to October, ideal for coastal road trips. In mid-July the city hosts the Festa di San Simplicio, Sardinia's oldest religious festival, filling the streets with processions, live music and local food stalls — book your campervan early for this popular week. September and October bring comfortable temperatures and quieter campsites, perfect for exploring nearby beaches at a relaxed pace. Through Yescapa, peer-to-peer hire means you can often find competitive rates even during peak summer months, and local owners may offer flexible pick-up times to match your ferry or flight schedule.
Olbia is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways

Parking areas on the village outskirts accommodate motorhomes comfortably.
Head 105 km northwest of Olbia to reach Santa Teresa Gallura at Sardinia's northern tip. Stop at Capo Testa for its sculpted granite formations and at Spiaggia di Rena Majore for a swim. Cala Gonone lies 130 km south of Olbia on the Gulf of Orosei. The SS125 Orientale Sarda winds through mountain scenery — allow extra time for the curves. Visit the Grotta del Bue Marino and take a boat from the harbour to Cala Luna beach. Pitches in nearby Dorgali make a good base for hiking the Supramonte trails.
Alghero sits 200 km southwest of Olbia, known for its Catalan old town and coral coast. Break the journey in Castelsardo to see its hilltop fortress and at Lago di Coghinas. Visit the Grotte di Nettuno at Capo Caccia — reached by 654 steps or by boat. Campsites near Fertilia offer pitches close to the beach and the old town walls.
Cagliari, Sardinia's capital, lies 290 km south of Olbia. The SS131 crosses the island's interior — stop in Nuoro for the Museo Etnografico Sardo and in Barumini for the UNESCO-listed Nuraghe Su Nuraxi. In Cagliari, explore the Castello quarter and relax at Poetto beach. Pitches near the Molentargius wetland park offer flamingo watching at sunset.

Around Olbia you will find campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Coastal sites often provide direct beach access, electrical hook-ups and modern shower blocks. Inland, quieter options sit among cork-oak woodland in the Gallura countryside. Most sites open from April to October and offer pitches with water and electrical connections.
Olbia offers several parking areas suitable for motorhomes and campervans. The city centre has pay-and-display zones, while larger free car parks are available on the outskirts. Overnight sleeping in vehicles is generally not permitted on public car parks — use designated motorhome areas or nearby campsites instead. Watch for height barriers at multi-storey car parks, which are not suitable for taller vehicles.
Roman and his girlfriend were wonderful guests. They were thoughtful, respectful, and very responsible, and they took excellent care of the van. Communication was always easy and prompt, especially when any questions or minor issues arose. They were a pleasure to deal with! I highly recommend them!
Tout était parfait. Le propriétaire a toujours été très poli et est resté disponible tout au long de notre voyage pour nous aider et répondre à toutes nos questions. Je le recommande sans hésitation et je suis certain que je referai appel à lui à l’avenir.

Hiring was easy and straightforward.
We had a fantastic experience with this campervan during our trip around Sicily. The van was spotless, very comfortable, and perfectly equipped with everything we needed for several days on the road. It was easy to drive, even on narrow roads and through small villages, and its size was perfect for exploring the island. Everything worked perfectly, and it was clear that the vehicle was very well maintained and cared for. Communication throughout the entire process was excellent. We always received quick responses, clear instructions, and a very friendly service, which gave us peace of mind from the very beginning. Thanks to this campervan, we were able to discover amazing places and enjoy an unforgettable travel experience. We would definitely rent it again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore Sicily with freedom and comfort. Thank you so much for everything!
I had a great trip with Pablos camper. The communication was very responsive and easy. The camper is equipped very functional with all you really need. The vehicle itself is not the newest anymore so don't expect the latest and greatest features :)
