Normandy's D-Day beaches stretch across 80 kilometres of coastline, forming one of the most historically significant landscapes in Europe and a deeply moving experience for visitors of all ages. From the towering cliffs of Étretat to the tidal island of Mont-Saint-Michel, this northern French region offers an extraordinary mix of heritage, nature, and gastronomy. The drive from Rouen to Cherbourg covers roughly 280 kilometres, passing through rolling bocage countryside, apple orchards, and charming harbour towns like Honfleur. Heading east, Giverny — where Claude Monet painted his famous water lilies — sits just 115 kilometres from Caen, Normandy's largest inland city. Coastal roads are well-suited to campervans and motorhomes, with wide lanes and frequent aires (designated parking areas) dotted along the route. Inland, quieter departmental roads wind through the Suisse Normande, a hilly area perfect for slower exploration. Whether you want to trace the Bayeux Tapestry's story, sample Camembert in its home village, or watch the tide race in around Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy rewards those who take their time. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the region, giving you the flexibility to start your trip from Rouen, Caen, or even a smaller town closer to your first stop.
Normandy is wonderful from May to October, with long daylight hours ideal for exploring coastal and inland routes by campervan. June marks the D-Day anniversary commemorations around the beaches, drawing visitors from across the world. In September, the Festival Deauville American Film brings a cultural buzz to the elegant seaside town. Spring and early autumn offer mild temperatures and quieter roads — great for motorhome travel through the bocage. Summer is the most popular season, so booking your Yescapa vehicle early gives you the best choice from local owners. Winter can be peaceful along the coast, with fewer crowds at Mont-Saint-Michel and cosy evenings in Normandy's cider-producing villages.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow Normandy's dramatic chalk cliffs from Le Havre to Dieppe along roughly 180 km of coastal road. Stop at Étretat to admire the natural arches, then continue to Fécamp and its Palais Bénédictine. The route suits campervans well, with several aires offering sea views and easy parking near the cliff paths.
This 150 km loop through the Pays d'Auge starts and ends in Lisieux, winding past half-timbered farms, cider houses, and Camembert producers. Visit the Château de Crèvecœur and stop in Beuvron-en-Auge, one of Normandy's prettiest villages. Narrow lanes suit smaller campervans — a relaxed taste of rural Norman life.
Cover 320 km from Caen to Cherbourg, tracing the history of the 1944 landings. Visit the Mémorial de Caen, Omaha Beach, the Pointe du Hoc, and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. Continue along Utah Beach to Sainte-Mère-Église. Motorhomes find ample parking at memorial sites, and several dedicated aires line this route across Normandy.
Follow the Seine for 400 km from Giverny to Honfleur, passing through Rouen and its Gothic cathedral, the ruins of Château Gaillard at Les Andelys, and the Brotonne Forest. The valley roads are wide and well-maintained, suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. End your Normandy trip at Honfleur's picturesque Vieux Bassin harbour.
This 550 km loop links Rouen, Étretat, Deauville, Caen, Bayeux, and Mont-Saint-Michel before returning inland. It covers Normandy's greatest highlights in one journey — from coastal cliffs to medieval abbeys. Campervans and motorhomes are welcome at aires and campsites throughout. Allow extra time for the tidal spectacle at Mont-Saint-Michel.
Trace the entire Normandy coast from Le Tréport to Mont-Saint-Michel — roughly 650 km of shoreline. Pass through Dieppe, Fécamp, Le Havre, Honfleur, the D-Day beaches, Granville, and the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. This extended campervan journey lets you experience fishing ports, sandy beaches, and dramatic headlands at a leisurely pace, with overnight stops at coastal aires.

Normandy offers a wide range of campsites spread from the Alabaster Coast to the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. Coastal sites provide direct beach access and sea views, while inland options sit among orchards and rolling farmland. Most campsites cater to both campervans and motorhomes with electric hook-ups, service points, and spacious pitches. Many open from April to October, with a good number offering year-round access near major towns.
Normandy is well connected by the A13 motorway from Paris to Caen and the A84 running south towards Mont-Saint-Michel. Tolls apply on the A13 and A29, payable by card or cash at toll booths. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are classified as category 2 vehicles and pay higher toll rates. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 110 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on single carriageways. Rest areas with motorhome service points appear regularly along major routes. Many travellers prefer the toll-free N-roads and D-roads, which run through scenic countryside and coastal stretches at a more relaxed pace.
We had a fantastic time in Sardinia, and the campervan was the perfect companion for our trip. The van ran smoothly, was incredibly cozy, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. We were especially impressed by the layout, which offers plenty of sleeping space for two plus two adults. A huge thank you to Séverine, who is a wonderful owner. Her warmth, kindness, and helpfulness truly made our experience special. We had a small challenge on our final night at the Alghero Laguna Blu campsite: we discovered the mosquito door nets a bit too late, which unfortunately allowed quite a few mosquitoes to get inside the van. For future renters, definitely remember to check for those nets early in the evening! We would highly recommend both the camper and Séverine to anyone planning a trip. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to rent from her again.
We had a wonderful time traveling with this camper van! Antonio is extremely nice and very easy to communicate with. The van was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Thanks to the solar panel, we did not need to worry about parking overnight in a place that had electricity. The check-in and check-out process with Antonio was very easy. One thing that would have been appreciated is a couple of bath towels and kitchen towels. We ended up purchasing a bath towel (Peppa Pig themed, the only towel we could find at Lidl haha) and left it with Antonio, so hopefully future renters can use that! Renters should keep in mind that this van does NOT have air conditioning. It might be easy to overlook this detail in the description. Overall, we are very happy we chose this van for our trip! Highly recommend. :)
Excellent experience. Owner contacted us in advance to arrange a time and pick up location. Owner went into detail at pick up of onboard services and how to use correctly.
André e Raquel são ótimos anfitriões. Eles responderam rapidamente todas as nossas dúvidas e foram muito corretos em tudo que combinamos. Voltaremos a manter contato com eles em uma proxima oportunidade.
We are more than happy about this experience and couldn't be happier with the service. The campervan was spotless and well-prepared when we picked it up. They always responded quickly to our messages and were incredibly friendly and easy to deal with. They provided bed linen, towels, and coffee, which made the trip even more convenient. They also kindly drove us to the airport for our early morning flight, which we really appreciated. Their attention to detail and customer service made all the difference. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a campervan rental in Spain.
Eric was fantastic and an incredible host! Everything was great and he was so helpful, and the car is so smooth to drive and stay in!
