Normandy's D-Day beaches stretch across 80 kilometres of coastline, forming one of the most historically significant landscapes in Europe and a deeply moving experience for visitors of all ages. From the towering cliffs of Étretat to the tidal island of Mont-Saint-Michel, this northern French region offers an extraordinary mix of heritage, nature, and gastronomy. The drive from Rouen to Cherbourg covers roughly 280 kilometres, passing through rolling bocage countryside, apple orchards, and charming harbour towns like Honfleur. Heading east, Giverny — where Claude Monet painted his famous water lilies — sits just 115 kilometres from Caen, Normandy's largest inland city. Coastal roads are well-suited to campervans and motorhomes, with wide lanes and frequent aires (designated parking areas) dotted along the route. Inland, quieter departmental roads wind through the Suisse Normande, a hilly area perfect for slower exploration. Whether you want to trace the Bayeux Tapestry's story, sample Camembert in its home village, or watch the tide race in around Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy rewards those who take their time. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the region, giving you the flexibility to start your trip from Rouen, Caen, or even a smaller town closer to your first stop.
Normandy is wonderful from May to October, with long daylight hours ideal for exploring coastal and inland routes by campervan. June marks the D-Day anniversary commemorations around the beaches, drawing visitors from across the world. In September, the Festival Deauville American Film brings a cultural buzz to the elegant seaside town. Spring and early autumn offer mild temperatures and quieter roads — great for motorhome travel through the bocage. Summer is the most popular season, so booking your Yescapa vehicle early gives you the best choice from local owners. Winter can be peaceful along the coast, with fewer crowds at Mont-Saint-Michel and cosy evenings in Normandy's cider-producing villages.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow 350 km of history along the Normandy coast from Ouistreham to Sainte-Mère-Église. Visit Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Pointe du Hoc, and the Airborne Museum. Numerous motorhome-friendly aires are located close to the coast throughout this route.
This 400 km route connects two of Normandy's greatest highlights. Start in Rouen with its Gothic cathedral, drive through the Suisse Normande river valleys, and reach Mont-Saint-Michel via Avranches. A stop in Villedieu-les-Poêles, known for its bell foundry, is well worth the detour along the way.
Experience all of Normandy on this 550 km loop. From Caen, head to Bayeux and the Cotentin Peninsula, continue to Granville, on to Mont-Saint-Michel, and return via Alençon. The route combines coastline, bocage countryside, and historic towns — perfect for an extended campervan adventure.
Over 600 km, connect the Normandy coast with the scenic Seine Valley. Start in Le Havre, drive via Honfleur and Deauville to Rouen, follow the Seine past Les Andelys and Château Gaillard to Giverny. Return through Évreux and Lisieux. This tour is ideal for a motorhome, with spacious aires along the river.
Explore Normandy's chalk cliffs between Étretat and Dieppe. Over roughly 150 km, you'll pass the famous arches of Étretat, the harbour town of Fécamp, and the seaside village of Varengeville-sur-Mer. The coastal D79 road is well suited for campervans, with plenty of aires offering sea views.
This 120 km loop through Normandy takes you from Lisieux via Cambremer and Beuvron-en-Auge to Pont-l'Évêque. Along the way, visit cider estates and Calvados distilleries set among rolling green hills. The narrow country lanes are particularly well suited for a campervan.

Normandy offers a wide variety of campsites, from pitches right on the coast to peaceful spots in the green countryside. Many sites provide dedicated motorhome bays with electrical hook-ups and service points for fresh water and waste disposal. Campervan-friendly pitches with full facilities are also widely available. Sites are spread across the entire region, from the Alabaster Coast in the north to the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel in the south.
Normandy is well connected by the A13 motorway from Paris to Caen and the A84 running south towards Mont-Saint-Michel. Tolls apply on the A13 and A29, payable by card or cash at toll booths. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are classified as category 2 vehicles and pay higher toll rates. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 110 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on single carriageways. Rest areas with motorhome service points appear regularly along major routes. Many travellers prefer the toll-free N-roads and D-roads, which run through scenic countryside and coastal stretches at a more relaxed pace.
Fantastic Campervan Hire Experience Great communication from the very beginning, and the campervan was exactly as described and shown in the listing. The vehicle drove very well, was clean, well-maintained, and surprisingly economical. Chris, the owner, was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. A few days before pickup, he sent us helpful YouTube videos with instructions on how to use the campervan, which made everything much easier and really added to the overall experience. The pickup and return arrangements were also very convenient. We were able to drop the campervan off and Chris drove us to Düsseldorf Airport at the end of our holiday after a lovely weekend in Cologne, which was the perfect way to finish our trip. We would definitely hire from Chris again and highly recommend both Chris and Yescapa. The entire process was simple, straightforward, and enjoyable from start to finish.
Alberto was great and super helpful with knowing good spots to park/camp for the night. He has lots of experience camping around the island that is super helpful. He responded quickly to messages. The van was great! We were there during a heatwave and the A/C still kept up during the night keeping us cool and comfy.
Virginia was awesome! She was really communicative, flexible, and super helpful. The van had everything we needed, and we had a great time. I'd definitely rent from her again!
Such a fantastic RV! We named it Raul and he could do no wrong - except where we could not navigate the narrow lanes in the Douro Valley - but that was not Raul’s fault. Worked like a dream, Joao was super helpful, pick-up and drop off was super easy
Really good guys. Easy to interact. I’m pretty sure that was one of the most clean returns in terms of internal motorhome condition!
The rental service was very friendly. I had some individual requests, which were answered. Chencho delivered the campervan to us and recommended some great places to visit in Ibiza – best regards. The car is in good condition for its age, lacking nothing. Very good value for money, I recommend it and remember this time as a very enjoyable one.
