Ljubljana's iconic Triple Bridge, designed by Jože Plečnik in 1932, connects the medieval old town to the modern city centre across the Ljubljanica River. The Slovenian capital is compact yet full of character, with landmarks like Ljubljana Castle perched on a forested hill, the National Gallery of Slovenia housing works from the medieval period to the 20th century, and the lively Central Market where locals shop for fresh produce under elegant colonnades. A short stroll leads to Tivoli Park, the city's largest green space stretching over 5 square kilometres. Beyond the city, Lake Bled sits just 55 km to the northwest, while the Postojna Cave system lies 53 km to the southwest — both are easy day trips by road. Ljubljana's streets are largely pedestrianised in the centre, making it a relaxed base for exploring by campervan, with wider roads and good infrastructure on the outskirts for larger vehicles. The surrounding region offers a mix of Alpine foothills, vineyard-covered hills, and river valleys, all within comfortable driving distance. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Ljubljana, which means flexible pick-up points and a more personal experience. Whether you are planning a weekend escape or a longer tour through Slovenia, a motorhome rented through the community gives you the freedom to set your own pace and discover the country on your own terms.
Ljubljana welcomes visitors warmly throughout the year. The Ljubljana Festival, running from June to September, fills the city with open-air concerts, theatre, and dance performances at venues like Križanke. In December, the Festive Fair transforms the old town into a magical winter market. Summer is the most popular season for campervan travel, so booking your Yescapa hire early ensures the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Spring and autumn bring comfortable driving conditions and quieter campsites across Slovenia, ideal for couples or smaller groups. Winter opens up access to nearby ski resorts, with Ljubljana as a cosy base.
Ljubljana is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Just 55 km northwest of Ljubljana, Lake Bled and its island church await. Stop in Radovljica along the way to visit the Beekeeping Museum. Lakeside pitches offer waterfront views for your campervan. Arrive early to enjoy the quieter northern shore before day visitors appear, and walk up to Bled Castle for panoramic views across the Julian Alps.
Head 53 km southwest of Ljubljana to reach Postojna Cave, one of Europe's largest karst cave systems. Just 9 km further sits Predjama Castle, built dramatically into a cliff face. Motorhome parking is available right at the caves. Combining both sites makes a comfortable day trip, and the well-maintained A1 motorway keeps the drive smooth and straightforward.
Drive 130 km southwest from Ljubljana to reach Piran on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. The route passes through Koper and follows the coastal road with sea views. In Piran, explore the old town around Tartini Square and walk the medieval town walls. Stop at the Sečovlje Salt Pans along the way. Coastal campsites offer campervan pitches with easy beach access for a relaxing stay.
Head 140 km north from Ljubljana into the heart of Triglav National Park. The drive takes you through Kranj and into the Soča Valley with its turquoise river. Visit Savica Waterfall and Lake Bohinj, a quieter alternative to Bled. Valley campsites offer spacious pitches surrounded by mountains. The mountain roads are well maintained but require attentive driving in a motorhome.
Drive 85 km east from Ljubljana to Celje, Slovenia's third-largest city. Celje Castle stands above the town with sweeping views over the Savinja Valley. Visit the Museum of Recent History and stroll through the old quarter. Along the way, stop in Žalec to try Europe's first beer fountain. Campsites in the surrounding area are easy to reach and set in peaceful countryside.
Travel 250 km southeast from Ljubljana via Zagreb to reach Croatia's Plitvice Lakes. Spend a day in Zagreb exploring Dolac Market and the Upper Town. Continue south to the national park with its 16 cascading lakes connected by waterfalls. The motorway from Ljubljana to Zagreb is well maintained. Campsites near Plitvice offer pitches for motorhomes surrounded by dense forest and walking trails.

Around Ljubljana you will find campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Some sit on the city's outskirts with easy access to the centre, while others are set in the surrounding countryside with views towards the Alpine foothills. Most sites offer electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, and Wi-Fi. The area around Ljubljana also has nature-oriented pitches beside rivers and lakes, making them ideal base camps for day trips into the Julian Alps or down to the coast.
Ljubljana's city centre has short-stay parking zones that may restrict larger vehicles. For motorhomes and campervans, the park-and-ride sites on the outskirts are a practical choice, with regular bus connections to the centre. Overnight parking in your vehicle is generally not permitted on public car parks — use designated motorhome areas or campsites instead. Watch for height barriers in multi-storey car parks, which are typically set at 1.90 m.
Super nice and friendly owners. Available and easy communication. Well prepared video tutorials. The campervan itself is super good, it had some small issues due to the recent high demand and workshops being on holidays, but they were totally upfront and transparent about each single detail. Nothing that harmed any of the experience. Totally recommend!! :)
Hi Jeremy, it was a pleasue to meet you and your family. Thank you for taking a good care of our camper. Make yourself a great days, Marta and the team.
Alba was friendly, communicative, and respectful. Her and her partner took excellent care of the camper and returned it in great condition. Would be very happy to rent to them again. Highly recommended!
Feeling right at home Traveling across Portugal with Koda was a perfect, unique, and wonderful experience ☺️ Carina and Rafaela met us right at the airport and explained everything about the van—covering every detail clearly and effectively. We had never taken an off-the-cuff trip like this before; without any set plans, we drove all the way to Sagres, navigating easily through narrow roads, campsites, and stunning beaches 😍 Its compact size makes it comfortable to drive almost immediately, allowing for effortless maneuvering even on narrow roads, whether driving uphill or on light off-road terrain. The van is fully equipped: it has kitchenware, a sink, a convenient handheld shower, and even a solar shower, plus two camping chairs and an easy-to-assemble table. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and when not in use, it converts into a small bench. It was easy and delightful to feel right at home during this vacation; we can’t wait to return to Portugal to explore the north with Koda 🧡
Absolute pleasure to host this group of three! Everything went completely smoothly from pickup to return. They treated the camper with great respect, followed all guidelines, and kept in touch throughout the trip. Reliable, responsible, and friendly—10/10 renters, highly recommended to any owner on Yescapa!
