Lake Geneva stretches 73 kilometres between Switzerland and France, making it the largest lake in Western Europe and a natural corridor for road trips through two countries. The region wraps around this crescent-shaped body of water, connecting cities like Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux, and Évian-les-Bains on the French shore. From Montreux, the medieval Château de Chillon sits right at the water's edge, while the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — cascade down hillsides between Lausanne and Vevey across roughly 30 kilometres. The distance from Geneva to Montreux is about 95 kilometres along the northern lakeshore, a route that passes through rolling wine country and charming waterfront towns. Heading south from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains covers just 10 kilometres of the French Riviera of the Alps. Beyond the lake itself, the region reaches into the Chablais Alps and the foothills of the Jura Mountains, offering varied terrain for travellers in vehicles of all sizes. Wider valley roads suit motorhomes comfortably, while compact campervans handle the narrower routes climbing into alpine villages with ease. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the Lake Geneva region, choosing from a range of vehicles that match your group size and travel style. This peer-to-peer approach means more pick-up options spread around the lake, so your trip can start wherever suits you best.
The Lake Geneva region welcomes visitors from spring right through to autumn. June to September brings warm days ideal for lakeside stops and alpine drives in a campervan. The Montreux Jazz Festival runs each July, drawing music fans from around the world — book your motorhome on Yescapa early to secure the best choice from local owners. Autumn in the Lake Geneva area is equally rewarding, especially during the grape harvest across the Lavaux terraces in September and October. Peer-to-peer hire through Yescapa often means more flexible pricing outside peak summer months, so shoulder-season trips can be both quieter and easier on the budget.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 180 km route winds through the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards between Lausanne and Vevey, with stops at Lutry and Cully. Allow 3–6 days to explore wine cellars and lakeside promenades. The gentle roads suit both campervans and motorhomes, with several well-equipped campsites along the shore.
A 120 km route along the French side of Lake Geneva, passing through Yvoire — one of France's most beautiful villages — and the spa town of Évian-les-Bains. Over 3–5 days, enjoy lakefront walks and local markets. Compact campervans handle the narrow village streets with ease.
Covering 350 km over 5–8 days, this route heads south from Thonon-les-Bains into the Savoie Alps, reaching Annecy and the Aravis mountain range. Expect well-maintained alpine roads with regular service areas. A motorhome gives you the space to settle in at higher-altitude campsites along the way.
This 300 km journey follows the Rhône Valley from Montreux into the Valais, stopping at Sion, Sierre, and Martigny. Over 5–8 days, visit vineyard trails and historic castles like the Château de Tourbillon. The valley floor roads are wide and well-suited to motorhomes and larger campervans.
A 500 km circuit over 7–11 days circling Lake Geneva and climbing into the Jura Mountains via Nyon and the Col de la Givrine. Stop at the Vallée de Joux for its watchmaking heritage. Campsites are well-spaced, and the mix of lakeside and mountain scenery keeps every day fresh.
Spanning 550 km over 8–15 days, this route links Lake Geneva with Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Biel via Fribourg and Murten. Explore the old towns of Neuchâtel and Biel along the way. The route suits campervans well, with plenty of lakeside aires and campsites for overnight stops.

The Lake Geneva region offers campsites on both the Swiss and French shores, from waterfront pitches with mountain views to quieter spots tucked into vineyard country. Most sites provide full hook-ups for motorhomes alongside smaller pitches for campervans, with facilities like hot showers, waste disposal, and Wi-Fi. Whether you prefer a base near a lively town like Lausanne or a peaceful site in the Valais countryside, you will find well-maintained options spread right around the lake.
Switzerland requires a motorway vignette (currently CHF 40) for all vehicles using its national highways, including motorhomes under 3.5 tonnes. Heavier motorhomes need to pay distance-based charges instead. On Swiss motorways, the speed limit for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes is 80 km/h, while lighter campervans and motorhomes follow the standard 120 km/h limit. On the French side of Lake Geneva, autoroutes are toll-based and paid at barriers by card or cash. Rest areas with motorhome service points appear regularly along the A40 and A41. Mountain passes near the lake, such as the Col des Mosses, may require snow chains in winter months.

Ok
We had a truly wonderful experience with Tobia and his motorhome. The vehicle was in perfect condition, practically like new, very clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. It was the perfect companion for our summer family trip and gave us everything we needed for a fantastic camping experience. From even before the pick-up, communication with Tobia was excellent. He was always responsive, helpful, and genuinely did his best to solve any issues, provide us with all the information we needed, and take our particular situation into consideration. We really appreciated his kindness and flexibility throughout the whole rental. The motorhome itself was very comfortable to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient, which was a big plus during our long trip. We spent several weeks travelling with it as a family, and it truly made our summer holiday very special and memorable. I would highly recommend both Tobia and this motorhome to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. We would definitely choose this motorhome again for our next trip. Thank you, Tobia, for helping make our family holiday such a great experience!
Todo genial. Gracias
