Galicia's coastline stretches over 1,600 kilometres, making it the longest of any region in Spain and one of the most varied in all of Europe. From the towering Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela — the endpoint of the famous Camino de Santiago — to the wild cliffs of the Costa da Morte and the sheltered inlets of the Rías Baixas, this north-western corner of the Iberian Peninsula rewards slow, exploratory travel. The drive from A Coruña to Ourense covers roughly 100 km inland, crossing lush river valleys and terraced vineyards in the Ribeira Sacra. Head south from Lugo to Vigo, around 170 km, and the landscape shifts from rolling pastures to Atlantic beaches backed by pine and eucalyptus forests. Galicia's roads are well-maintained and largely toll-free, with plenty of coastal laybys and rural rest spots that make travelling by campervan or motorhome genuinely enjoyable. Smaller vehicles handle the winding roads along the rías with ease, while larger motorhomes find comfortable routes on the main highways linking major cities. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across Galicia — in Santiago, Vigo, A Coruña, and beyond — choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your trip and your budget.
Galicia is a wonderful destination from late spring through to early autumn. June and September offer warm, settled weather ideal for exploring the coast by campervan, with fewer crowds at popular stops like the Cíes Islands. The Festa de San Xoán in June lights up beaches across Galicia with bonfires, while the Festa do Marisco in October celebrates the region's legendary seafood in O Grove. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners — and peer-to-peer pricing often means better value than traditional hire companies. Winter brings a quieter Galicia, perfect for visiting Santiago de Compostela's old town or soaking in the hot springs of Ourense without the queues.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 180 km route winds along Galicia's southern estuaries, passing through Sanxenxo, Cambados, and the fishing port of O Grove. Ideal for campervans, with plenty of coastal campsites and fresh seafood stops along the way. Allow 3 to 6 days to enjoy the beaches and vineyards at a relaxed pace.
Follow 220 km of the Camino's route by motorhome, from Sarria through Portomarín and Arzúa to Santiago de Compostela. Well-serviced campsites dot the path, and the roads are easy to navigate. A 3 to 6 day trip that lets you experience the pilgrimage spirit with the comfort of your own vehicle.
Cover 650 km across Galicia's full diversity, from the beaches of A Coruña to the canyons of the Sil River and the thermal springs of Ourense. Suits both campervans and motorhomes, with a mix of motorways and scenic back roads. Plan 10 to 15 days to take in the coast, mountains, and rural heartland.
This 350 km route explores Galicia's dramatic western coastline, from Malpica to Fisterra and on to Muros. Lighthouses, wild beaches, and traditional fishing villages line the way. A campervan is perfect for the narrower coastal roads. Allow 5 to 8 days, with stops at Cape Vilán and the Ezaro waterfall.
A 400 km inland loop through Galicia's wine country and thermal heartland. Visit the monasteries above the Sil canyon, taste Mencía wines in Monforte de Lemos, and soak in Ourense's open-air hot springs. Motorhomes handle the main roads well. Plan 5 to 8 days for a thorough exploration.
This 550 km route traces Galicia's entire northern and western coast, from Ribadeo's Praia das Catedrais to Baiona near the Portuguese border. Expect scenic cliffs, sandy coves, and lively harbour towns. Suitable for both campervans and motorhomes, with well-spaced campsites. Allow 7 to 11 days.

Galicia offers a fine spread of campsites for both campervan and motorhome travellers, from beachfront pitches along the Rías Baixas to quieter inland spots near rivers and forests. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, hot showers, and waste disposal points. Coastal campsites in Galicia tend to fill up in July and August, so booking ahead is a good idea during peak season. Inland options near Lugo and Ourense give easy access to thermal springs and wine country.
Galicia's motorway network — the autopistas and autovías — is largely toll-free, which is great news for motorhome and campervan travellers. The AP-9, running from Ferrol through A Coruña, Santiago, and down to Vigo, is the main toll road; payment is made at booths by card or cash. Speed limits for vehicles over 3,500 kg are generally 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on conventional roads. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles appear regularly along the main routes. Signage is bilingual in Galician and Spanish, so keep an eye out for both versions of place names.
Brenda si è rivelata disponibile sin dal primo momento. Il van non ci ha dato alcun tipo di problema e ci ha permesso di visitare meravigliosi posti nella parte nord dell’isola regalandoci albe e tramonti indimenticabili. Super consigliato! ☀️
We couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with YesCapa! A-Z, just great. Claudio was very kind and friendly, texting on the app and when we met at the pick-up. The review of the car was easy going, no rush at all, yet felt very professional. From the formal, general information to the little specs and hacks that would improve our trip. Claudio also gave us tips and recommendations for our route and even offered to store some of our luggage so our trip will be more convenient- Thanks! The car is very easy and smooth to drive. Highways or a gravel road to camp, runs perfectly. We didn’t have a single problem. Another great feature is that it’s practically a private so no problem parking it anywhere, including zones where motorhomes and towable home are not aloud. As for the “home” aspect of the car, it takes a day or two to get the hang of the transformations. Personally, I’m an “analog” person and prefer to push/pull until I hear the ‘click’. Once or twice and everything worked fine. The inside table, Kitchen, fridge, pop-up roof, bed and more. We cooked every day of our trip, very functional. Claudio and Pamela were easy-going and welcoming on our return to the drop-off the car. To sum it up, If you’re in for a classic and smooth experience for your trip, we highly recommend renting Claudio and Pamela’s Vito!
Fue un placer recibir a Valentina! Cuidó muy bien de nuestra autocaravana. Totalmente recomendable para otros propietarios de Yescapa!
Fantastic guests! They are such lovely and positive people, it was a real pleasure hosting them. I was absolutely thrilled to hear that they were delighted with the camper and that everything was perfect for them. Thank you so much for the wonderful gesture and the bottle of wine, that was such a nice surprise. Highly recommended to any host, and you are always welcome back!
It was ok
