The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Florence's Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore took 140 years to build and its dome, engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi in 1436, remains the largest masonry dome ever constructed. The city sits in the Arno Valley, surrounded by the rolling hills of Tuscany, making it a superb base for exploring the region by road. Wander through the Galleria degli Uffizi to see Botticelli's Birth of Venus, cross the medieval Ponte Vecchio lined with jewellery shops, and climb up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic view over the terracotta rooftops. The Basilica di San Lorenzo, with its Medici Chapels, and the Giardino di Boboli behind Palazzo Pitti offer quieter moments away from the main squares. Siena lies just 75 km to the south, while Lucca is around 80 km to the west — both are easy day trips along well-maintained Tuscan roads that wind through vineyards and olive groves. The surrounding countryside is gentle and well-suited to larger vehicles, though the historic centre itself is a restricted traffic zone (ZTL), so plan to park outside and walk in. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the Florence area, giving you the flexibility to set your own pace and discover Tuscany on your own terms.
Florence welcomes visitors warmly throughout the year. Spring is ideal for exploring on foot and by campervan, with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival running from April to June filling the city with opera and concerts. September and October bring the grape harvest season, perfect for driving through Chianti's vineyards. Summer is the most popular period, so booking your motorhome on Yescapa early gives you the best choice from local owners. Winter offers a quieter Florence, with fewer crowds at the Uffizi and festive Christmas markets in Piazza Santa Croce during December.
Florence is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Drive 80 km west to Lucca, a walled city perfect for cycling along its Renaissance ramparts. Stop in Pistoia along the way to visit the Cattedrale di San Zeno. Lucca has motorhome-friendly parking at Parcheggio Palatucci near Porta Sant'Anna, ideal for an overnight stay.
Travel 130 km southwest to the Maremma, Tuscany's wilder coastline. Visit the Parco Regionale della Maremma for coastal hiking and the hilltop town of Massa Marittima. Campsites along the coast near Castiglione della Pescaia offer pitches with sea views and full hook-ups for campervans.
Head 185 km southeast into Umbria, stopping at Lago Trasimeno for lakeside walks before reaching Perugia. Continue to Assisi to see the Basilica di San Francesco with its Giotto frescoes. Roads are wide and well-maintained, and motorhome services are available at several points along the route.
Head 75 km south through the Chianti hills, stopping at Greve in Chianti for wine tasting and San Gimignano for its medieval towers. Siena's Piazza del Campo is one of Italy's finest squares. Campervan parking is available just outside the city walls, making access straightforward.
Drive 280 km northwest along the coast to the Cinque Terre. Break the journey in Viareggio for its sandy beaches and Carrara to see the marble quarries. Park your campervan at La Spezia and take the train between the five villages, as vehicle access within them is restricted.
Cover 310 km south to Rome via the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO-listed landscape of cypress-lined roads. Stop in Montepulciano for Vino Nobile and Orvieto for its Gothic cathedral. Motorhome parking in Rome is available at designated areas like Camping Village Roma near the Via Aurelia.

The Florence area offers a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most are located in the surrounding Tuscan hills, giving you a peaceful base with easy access to the city centre by bus or car. Expect facilities such as electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, Wi-Fi, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Several sites also feature swimming pools and on-site restaurants, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing in Florence.
Florence's historic centre is a ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato), meaning motorhomes and campervans cannot drive in without a permit. Park outside the restricted zone and use public transport to reach the centre. Overnight parking in a motorhome is generally permitted in designated areas, but always check local signage. Several car parks on the city's outskirts accept larger vehicles and offer bus connections into the heart of Florence.
We can’t recommend this camper enough! The camper was spotless, well-equipped, and had everything we needed for a great trip. What really made the experience special, though, were the people behind it. They were friendly, helpful, and always available if we had any questions. Their genuine care and attention made everything so easy from start to finish. We had an amazing experience and wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again. Thank you for everything! 😊🚐✨
Lili was superb! Picked us from the airport and took us to the campervan. Very friendly and always providing great advice and support. The vehicle was spotless, well maintained and easy to use. Had all the features needed for a long and comfortable van trip.
