Flanders stretches across 13,625 square kilometres of northern Belgium, where a network of over 2,500 kilometres of cycling paths doubles as scenic routes for slow-paced road trips. The region connects major cultural centres like Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, and Leuven, all within remarkably short distances — Bruges to Ghent is just 50 kilometres, while Antwerp to Leuven covers roughly 65 kilometres. This compact geography makes Flanders ideal for exploring by campervan, with each stop offering something distinct. In Bruges, the medieval Belfry tower rises 83 metres above the Markt square. Ghent's Saint Bavo's Cathedral houses the famous Ghent Altarpiece by the Van Eyck brothers. Antwerp draws visitors to the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and the Cathedral of Our Lady, while the Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres preserves the region's World War I history. The flat terrain across Flanders means easy driving for any vehicle size, and the dense road network keeps journey times short. Coastal stretches along the 67-kilometre Belgian coastline between De Panne and Knokke-Heist add a seaside dimension to any trip. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners across Flanders, giving you flexible pick-up points and a wide choice of vehicles suited to the region's compact touring style.
Flanders welcomes travellers comfortably from April through October. Spring brings the famous Ghent Floralies flower show every five years, while summer sees the Gentse Feesten festival light up Ghent for ten days each July. Autumn in Flanders is perfect for quieter touring, with golden colours along canal-side routes and fewer crowds at popular sites. Campsites across the region are fully open from May to September, with many offering year-round pitches. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months like May or September often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer pricing on campervans and motorhomes. Plan ahead for July and August to secure your preferred vehicle.

Flanders offers a solid selection of campsites spread across the entire region — from the coast to the green hinterland. Along the North Sea, you will find sites with direct beach access, while inland, quieter spots nestled among forests and fields await. Most campsites in Flanders provide electrical hook-ups, sanitary facilities, and waste disposal stations for both motorhomes and campervans.
Flanders has an extensive motorway network that is toll-free for all vehicles, including motorhomes and campervans. Major routes like the E40 (connecting the coast to Brussels and beyond) and the E17 (Antwerp to Kortrijk) are well-maintained and brightly lit at night. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 90 km/h on motorways and 70 km/h on regional roads. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles appear regularly along main routes. Low emission zones (LEZ) apply in Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels — check your vehicle's emission class and register online before entering these cities.
A really incredible experience with this van! We drove for 5 days down the coast and everything was perfect. Really handy cooking facilities, comfy bed and João explained everything to us perfectly, even giving us recommendations! He was also flexible with timings on returning the van. Cannot reccomend enough!
