England's Jurassic Coast stretches 95 miles along the southern shoreline, exposing 185 million years of geological history and holding UNESCO World Heritage status since 2001. From the rolling hills of the Cotswolds to the rugged peaks of the Lake District, this country packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into a relatively compact area. The drive from London to the Lake District covers around 260 miles, while the journey from Bath to the Yorkshire Dales spans roughly 230 miles — both routes offering constantly changing scenery. Landmarks like Stonehenge, Canterbury Cathedral, Hadrian's Wall, and the white cliffs of Dover each tell a different chapter of England's long story. Narrow country lanes wind through villages with thatched-roof pubs, and coastal roads hug clifftops with views across the English Channel. For campervan travellers, the variety is a real draw: you can wake up beside a Cornish beach one morning and park near a Northumberland castle the next. Motorhome-friendly aires and campsites are spread right across the country, from Devon to Durham. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners based throughout England, choosing from a wide selection of vehicles to match your trip. The peer-to-peer model means you'll often find a campervan or motorhome available close to where you want to start, making it easy to hit the road without a long transfer.
England welcomes campervan travellers from spring right through to autumn, with each season bringing its own appeal. May and June offer long daylight hours and wildflower-covered countryside, ideal for exploring the Cotswolds or the South Downs. Summer is peak season, when events like the Glastonbury Festival in late June and the Notting Hill Carnival in August bring extra energy to the calendar. September and October reward with golden foliage across the Lake District and quieter roads. Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means more competitive rates outside July and August, so booking a shoulder-season trip can be a smart move. Plan ahead for bank holiday weekends, when popular routes fill up quickly.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This gentle loop through England's Cotswolds covers around 200 km of honey-coloured villages and rolling farmland. Start in Cheltenham, pass through Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water, then head south to Cirencester and Tetbury. Campervan-friendly campsites dot the route, and the quiet B-roads are easy to navigate.
Around 250 km through England's North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire coast. Drive from York to Helmsley, cross the moors to Whitby, then follow the coast south to Scarborough and Robin Hood's Bay. Motorhome pitches are available at several well-equipped sites along the way, with dramatic moorland views throughout.
This 400 km route traces England's Cornish coastline and interior. Begin in Exeter, head to Tintagel and Padstow on the north coast, round Land's End, then return via St Ives, Falmouth, and the Eden Project near St Austell. Coastal campsites welcome campervans and motorhomes, and the Atlantic views are worth every mile.
Covering roughly 450 km, this route links England's Peak District with the Pennine hills. Start in Sheffield, explore Bakewell and Castleton, drive through Buxton to Macclesfield, then head north to Skipton and the Ribblehead Viaduct. The mix of moorland passes and limestone dales suits campervans well, with plenty of farm-based campsites.
This 550 km route through northern England connects two iconic landscapes. Start in Lancaster, drive into the Lake District via Windermere and Keswick, then head east to Carlisle and along Hadrian's Wall to Hexham and Newcastle. Motorhome services are well established across the region, and the mountain scenery around Borrowdale is unforgettable.
At around 700 km, this extended route crosses England from the Dorset coast to Northumberland. Begin in Bournemouth, travel through Salisbury and the Cotswolds, continue to Nottingham and the Yorkshire Dales, then finish at Alnwick and Bamburgh Castle on the northeast coast. A campervan gives you the flexibility to stop at market towns and wild beaches along the way.

England offers a wide range of campsites suited to every style of trip, from clifftop pitches overlooking the sea in Cornwall to woodland clearings in the New Forest and open fell-side spots in the Lake District. Many sites provide full hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, modern shower blocks, and waste disposal points for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a family-friendly park with a playground or a quieter adults-only retreat, you'll find options spread right across England.
England's motorway network is toll-free on most routes, with the notable exception of the M6 Toll near Birmingham. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.05 tonnes are 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways, so keep that in mind when planning journey times. The M1, M5, and M6 form the main north–south corridors, while the M4 connects London to Wales via Bristol. Motorway service stations appear regularly and most have dedicated parking bays for larger vehicles. On rural A-roads and B-roads, especially in areas like Cornwall and the Lake District, lanes can narrow significantly — a campervan under 6 metres handles these comfortably, while larger motorhomes may need to plan routes carefully using sat-nav set to avoid narrow roads.
We can’t recommend this camper enough! The camper was spotless, well-equipped, and had everything we needed for a great trip. What really made the experience special, though, were the people behind it. They were friendly, helpful, and always available if we had any questions. Their genuine care and attention made everything so easy from start to finish. We had an amazing experience and wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again. Thank you for everything! 😊🚐✨
