Dresden's Frauenkirche, rebuilt from 1994 to 2005 using over 3,800 original stones recovered from wartime rubble, stands as one of Europe's most remarkable restoration projects. Sitting on the banks of the River Elbe, this Saxon capital blends baroque grandeur with a forward-looking cultural scene. The Zwinger Palace houses the Old Masters Picture Gallery, home to Raphael's Sistine Madonna, while the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) displays one of the richest treasure collections on the continent. A walk along the Brühl's Terrace offers sweeping views across the river towards the Neustadt quarter, where independent galleries and relaxed cafés line the streets. Beyond the city centre, the Elbe Valley stretches in both directions — the Pillnitz Castle and its botanical gardens sit just 10 km southeast, and the dramatic sandstone formations of Saxon Switzerland National Park begin roughly 35 km to the south. The roads along the Elbe are well-suited to larger vehicles, with gentle gradients and wide lanes making the drive enjoyable for any setup. Hiring a campervan or motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners in the Dresden area, meaning you can often pick up your vehicle right in the city and set off without delay. With a campervan, you have the freedom to combine Dresden's world-class museums with the natural beauty of the surrounding Saxony region at your own pace.
Dresden is a rewarding destination throughout the year. The Dresdner Musikfestspiele in May and June fills the city with classical concerts in historic venues, while the Striezelmarkt — one of Germany's oldest Christmas markets, running since 1434 — transforms the Altmarkt square each December. Summer months bring long daylight hours ideal for exploring the Elbe Valley by campervan, and campsites in the surrounding area are fully open with all facilities. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and easy availability at local sites. Booking through Yescapa during the shoulder season often means more choice from local owners and competitive hire rates.

Campervan pitches in Bad Schandau offer solid facilities, and the panoramic Elbe Valley roads are well suited to larger vehicles.
Around 25 km north-west of Dresden, Meissen is the birthplace of European porcelain. Tour the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory and wander through the old town up to the Albrechtsburg, Germany's oldest castle. Riverside parking areas offer ample space for a motorhome. The drive along the Saxon Wine Route is especially rewarding in autumn.
Leipzig, 120 km west of Dresden, blends musical heritage with a creative urban scene. Visit the Thomaskirche where Johann Sebastian Bach served as cantor, and explore the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts. The Leipzig Lakeland offers waterside pitches for your campervan. Along the way, stop at Colditz Castle and the scenic Mulde river meadows.

Around Dresden you will find campsites suited to both campervans and larger motorhomes. Along the Elbe, nature-oriented sites offer direct river access, while those closer to the city provide electrical hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and Wi-Fi. In Saxon Switzerland, pitches come with mountain views, and the Elbe Valley itself hosts well-equipped sites for every vehicle size.
Dresden offers several parking areas suitable for motorhomes and campervans. Be aware of height restrictions in city-centre multi-storeys — many are limited to 2.10 m. For larger vehicles, designated motorhome parking areas on the outskirts often permit overnight stays. In the old town, pay-and-display rules and time limits apply, so heading for a dedicated pitch is usually the better option.
Super nice and friendly owners. Available and easy communication. Well prepared video tutorials. The campervan itself is super good, it had some small issues due to the recent high demand and workshops being on holidays, but they were totally upfront and transparent about each single detail. Nothing that harmed any of the experience. Totally recommend!! :)
Hi Jeremy, it was a pleasue to meet you and your family. Thank you for taking a good care of our camper. Make yourself a great days, Marta and the team.
Alba was friendly, communicative, and respectful. Her and her partner took excellent care of the camper and returned it in great condition. Would be very happy to rent to them again. Highly recommended!
Feeling right at home Traveling across Portugal with Koda was a perfect, unique, and wonderful experience ☺️ Carina and Rafaela met us right at the airport and explained everything about the van—covering every detail clearly and effectively. We had never taken an off-the-cuff trip like this before; without any set plans, we drove all the way to Sagres, navigating easily through narrow roads, campsites, and stunning beaches 😍 Its compact size makes it comfortable to drive almost immediately, allowing for effortless maneuvering even on narrow roads, whether driving uphill or on light off-road terrain. The van is fully equipped: it has kitchenware, a sink, a convenient handheld shower, and even a solar shower, plus two camping chairs and an easy-to-assemble table. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and when not in use, it converts into a small bench. It was easy and delightful to feel right at home during this vacation; we can’t wait to return to Portugal to explore the north with Koda 🧡
Absolute pleasure to host this group of three! Everything went completely smoothly from pickup to return. They treated the camper with great respect, followed all guidelines, and kept in touch throughout the trip. Reliable, responsible, and friendly—10/10 renters, highly recommended to any owner on Yescapa!
