Why choose Birmingham for your road trip

Birmingham — a city worth exploring

Birmingham's Bullring has been a market site for over 800 years, making it one of the oldest trading areas in England. Today, the city blends industrial heritage with a thriving cultural scene that rewards exploration on four wheels. The Jewellery Quarter, responsible for around 40% of all British jewellery production, sits just north of the centre and offers independent workshops and galleries. Head to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery for one of the finest Pre-Raphaelite collections in the world, or stroll along the Birmingham Canal Navigations — the city actually has more kilometres of canal than Venice. Families will enjoy Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum, while foodies can browse the stalls at Birmingham Smithfield Market. Warwick Castle lies just 35 km to the south, and the Peak District National Park begins roughly 80 km to the north, giving you easy access to rolling countryside and scenic driving routes. The road network around Birmingham is well suited to larger vehicles, with wide dual carriageways and clearly signed ring roads. Hiring a campervan or motorhome through Yescapa connects you with local owners across the West Midlands, so you can pick up your vehicle close to where you need it. A campervan rented from a Birmingham-based owner means less driving before the adventure even starts.

Best time to visit

Birmingham welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering something different. Late spring and summer, from May to September, bring long daylight hours ideal for exploring the canals and parks by campervan. The Birmingham International Dance Festival takes place in June, filling the city with outdoor performances. In October, the Birmingham Literature Festival draws book lovers from across the country. Hiring through Yescapa gives you access to peer-to-peer pricing, often more flexible than traditional rental companies, especially during quieter months from November to March. Book ahead for the summer period to secure the best choice of motorhome or campervan from local Birmingham owners.

My partner and I rented the motorhome for 6 days and had a great time! It had everything we needed for the trip, and we didn’t have a single issue with it. Andre was extremely responsive and helpful throughout, always quick to answer our questions and provide guidance on anything we threw his way 🙂 Highly recommended!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Martin’s van. We travelled through Belgium, France and Switzerland for a month and never had any issues. The van was reliable, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. Martin was excellent to deal with from start to finish. He was always quick to respond to our messages, which was especially reassuring as we were travelling all the way from Australia. He was genuinely helpful, friendly, and a pleasure to deal with. The van was supplied with everything we needed, including utensils, a table and chairs, and all the essentials for a great holiday on the road. The awning was a real bonus and was easy to set up, providing a lovely space to sit and relax. We would highly recommend Martin and his van to anyone looking to explore Europe. We had an amazing month and would happily hire from Martin again for our next adventure!
