Athens has been continuously inhabited for over 7,000 years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world still thriving today. The Acropolis, crowned by the Parthenon built in 447 BC, dominates the skyline and remains the most recognisable landmark in Greece. Below it, the Acropolis Museum houses over 4,000 artefacts spanning centuries of Athenian history. Wander through the Plaka neighbourhood, where neoclassical buildings line narrow pedestrian streets perfect for an afternoon stroll. For a greener escape, the National Garden of Athens offers 15 hectares of shade and calm right in the city centre. History enthusiasts will appreciate the Ancient Agora of Athens, once the heart of public life in classical times. Beyond the city, the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion sits just 69 km to the southeast, while the port city of Piraeus is only 12 km southwest, connecting you to the Greek islands by ferry. Athens is well suited for exploring by road — wide coastal avenues lead south towards the Athenian Riviera, and major motorways head north into mainland Greece. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the Athens area, giving you the freedom to combine city sightseeing with coastal drives and island-hopping adventures at your own pace.
Athens welcomes visitors warmly throughout the year. Spring is ideal for exploring on foot, with the Athens Open Air Film Festival launching screenings across the city from June. September and October bring comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds, perfect for parking your campervan near the coast. The Athens Authentic Marathon in November retraces the original route from Marathon to the city — a memorable event to witness. Summer is the most popular season, so we recommend booking your motorhome on Yescapa early to secure the best choice from local owners. Winter offers a quieter Athens with mild days suited to cultural exploration and easy access to campsites along the Attic coastline.
Athens is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
This 70 km coastal drive from Athens follows the Riviera road through Vouliagmeni and Lagonissi. Stop at Lake Vouliagmeni, a natural thermal pool, before reaching Cape Sounion and its Temple of Poseidon perched above the Aegean. The car park at the archaeological site has space for campervans and offers sweeping sea views.
Corinth lies roughly 90 km west of Athens, straddling the famous canal. Pause at the bridge over the Corinth Canal for views down the 6 km-long cut, then explore the fortress of Acrocorinth and the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth. Campsites along the Loutraki coast offer seaside motorhome pitches just minutes away.
Nafplio sits around 180 km southwest of Athens on the Peloponnese. The route crosses the Corinth Canal and passes ancient Mycenae, where the Lion Gate marks the entrance to a Bronze Age citadel. In Nafplio, climb the 999 steps to Palamidi Fortress and stroll the harbourside old town. Peloponnese roads are well-surfaced and comfortable for campervan travel.
Delphi sits roughly 170 km northwest of Athens on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. The drive passes through Thebes and Livadia, winding through olive groves and mountain scenery. At Delphi, visit the Sanctuary of Apollo and the Delphi Archaeological Museum. Overnight parking is available in nearby Itea on the Gulf of Corinth coast, with motorhome-friendly spaces along the waterfront.
The Meteora monasteries perch on sandstone pillars roughly 350 km northwest of Athens. The route heads through Lamia and Trikala across the Thessalian plain. Six of the original 24 monasteries remain active and open to visitors, including Great Meteoron and Varlaam. Car parks at the monasteries accommodate motorhomes. On the return, a detour to Lake Plastiras adds a scenic lakeside stop.
Thessaloniki lies around 500 km northwest of Athens along the A1 motorway. Break the journey at the Thermopylae monument and Mount Olympus, Greece's highest peak. In Thessaloniki, explore the White Tower, the Rotunda and the lively Nikis waterfront promenade. Modiano Market serves up local flavours. Around Athens, campsites line the Attica coastline and offer pitches for both campervans and motorhomes with electrical hook-ups, shower blocks and often direct beach access. Most are located south or east of the city along the Athens Riviera and near Marathon. Several sites include swimming pools, mini-markets and Wi-Fi. Shaded pitches beneath pine trees are common, providing welcome cover during warm months.
In Athens, motorhomes and campervans follow the same parking rules as cars, but many central streets are narrow and underground car parks often have height restrictions that exclude larger vehicles. Overnight sleeping in a vehicle on public roads is not permitted. Use designated car parks on the city outskirts or near the port, which offer wider bays and often 24-hour access. Park-and-ride facilities at metro stations are a practical option for visiting the centre without driving in.
Everything was perfect, the communication with the owner was very smooth and we really appreciated the friendly approach and the help that he offered to us. Would definitely recommend! ☺️

All went well!
Ok
We had a truly wonderful experience with Tobia and his motorhome. The vehicle was in perfect condition, practically like new, very clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. It was the perfect companion for our summer family trip and gave us everything we needed for a fantastic camping experience. From even before the pick-up, communication with Tobia was excellent. He was always responsive, helpful, and genuinely did his best to solve any issues, provide us with all the information we needed, and take our particular situation into consideration. We really appreciated his kindness and flexibility throughout the whole rental. The motorhome itself was very comfortable to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient, which was a big plus during our long trip. We spent several weeks travelling with it as a family, and it truly made our summer holiday very special and memorable. I would highly recommend both Tobia and this motorhome to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. We would definitely choose this motorhome again for our next trip. Thank you, Tobia, for helping make our family holiday such a great experience!
Todo genial. Gracias
