Why choose Karlstad for your road trip

Karlstad — a city worth exploring

Karlstad sits where the Klarälven river meets Lake Vänern, Sweden's largest lake, and has been known as the 'City of Sunshine' since a local waitress named Eva was celebrated in the 1800s for her radiant smile — a spirit the city still carries today. Stroll along the Östra Bron, one of Sweden's longest stone arch bridges with twelve arches spanning the river, then visit Värmlands Museum to explore regional art and cultural history. Families enjoy Mariebergsskogen, a large nature park with a children's zoo, mini-golf and woodland trails right in the city centre. For a dose of creativity, Sandgrund Lars Lerin houses an impressive collection of watercolour works by one of Sweden's most acclaimed contemporary artists. Karlstad also makes a brilliant base for wider exploration: Sunne, gateway to the Fryken lakes, lies just 60 km north, while the Norwegian border town of Charlottenberg with its popular outlet shopping is roughly 75 km west. The landscape around Karlstad is gentle and campervan-friendly, with wide roads winding through forests and along lakeshores — ideal for relaxed driving. Hiring a motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners who know the best lakeside spots and scenic routes. With a campervan from a nearby host, you can set your own pace and discover Värmland's open spaces without the constraints of fixed accommodation.

Best time to visit

Karlstad comes alive from June to August, when long daylight hours and warm temperatures make lakeside camping a joy. The annual Putte i Parken music festival in July draws crowds to Mariebergsskogen for free open-air concerts — a great reason to plan your trip around midsummer. Autumn brings golden forests and quieter campsites, perfect for a peaceful campervan getaway. Winter visitors can enjoy the Karlstad Christmas market in December. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa during spring or early autumn often means more choice and flexible pricing from local owners. For summer, we recommend reserving your hire early to secure the best vehicle for your plans.

It was our 1st time in a Caravan, and we feel very fortunate that we have done it with Jeremy & Annabella, their Caravan is exactly as decribed in the pictures, in a perfect mechanical situation, we had 0 problens through the whole joirney, and we were 6 people in that Caravan, I have no doubt that we will reserve it again in the future. The check in and out went completely smoove with Jeremy, you can feel free to trust them!

Great, responsible, and responsive owner. Van is equipped as advertised. The refrigerator loses its battery fast when van is turned off, so it caused some issues overnight in hot weather. Cars engine is a bit weak when driving uphill, but never caused any real issues. Great choice if you want a small van for exploring towns and coast of Andalusia.

Absolutely recommended renter. Really kind and nice people. They gave back the van clean in and out, so big respect to you guys. Thanks for your rent.

Very nice camper that has a lot of comfort for travelling Mallorca. One star less due toSlow/difficult communication with the owner, who only started to confirm our messages/questions 1 day before the actual start of the trip, The fact that the agreed pick-up time was not respected (and not communicated before we arrived on the airport) and got delayed with 1,5 h.Do know that towels and linnen are available in the camper (or they were at least for us), so no need to bring them.

Fantastic experience renting Dirk’s camper van! Pick-up and drop-off were exactly as we wished—very flexible both in time and location, which we really appreciated. The van was perfect for four adults: spacious, spotlessly clean, and excellently equipped with everything we needed and more. It was also very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. Dirk provided a very handy e-book with all the essential information about the van, which made everything even easier.A pure pleasure from beginning to end—we would definitely rent from Dirk again!

Sandro and gus were on hand to help with any issues that arose. Loads of power for the steep windy roads, the van was well equiped and comfortable . An extra blanket for parking at altetude was apreciated as it was cooler up the hills. Shower worked but not much hot water. We had a small scrape with another car and insurance sorted the third party but we lost some of our deposit to repair van. Sandro was very helpfull and there was no dramas. So maybe paying for comprehensive insurance would be a better plan in future.
