Why choose Bonn for your road trip

Bonn — a city worth exploring

Bonn's Beethoven-Haus, birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven in 1770, draws over 100,000 visitors each year to its museum on Bonngasse. This former capital of West Germany sits along the Rhine and offers a compelling mix of history, culture, and green spaces. Stroll through the Botanische Gärten der Universität Bonn, one of Germany's oldest botanical gardens, or visit the Bundeskunsthalle, a world-class exhibition hall hosting international art and science shows. The Haus der Geschichte chronicles post-war German history with free admission, while the Poppelsdorfer Schloss and its surrounding parkland make for a relaxed afternoon. Nature lovers will appreciate the Siebengebirge hills just 15 km south-east, where Rhine-side trails wind through forested slopes. Cologne is only 30 km north, making it easy to combine both cities in one trip. Bonn's riverside roads and well-maintained routes through the Rhine Valley are ideal for larger vehicles, with plenty of space to pull over and enjoy the views. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the Bonn area, giving you a personal touch and flexible pick-up options. Whether you want to explore Bonn's museums on foot or use it as a launchpad for a Rhine road trip, renting a campervan here puts you right where the journey begins.

Best time to visit

Bonn is a rewarding destination throughout the year. The Beethovenfest, held each September, fills the city with world-class concerts and recitals — a great reason to plan your campervan trip around early autumn. In December, the Bonner Weihnachtsmarkt transforms the old town into a festive gathering spot. Summer months bring long days ideal for Rhine-side drives and open-air dining, while spring sees the famous cherry blossom display along Heerstraße. Booking a motorhome through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform often means more competitive rates than traditional hire, especially outside peak summer weeks. Plan ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of vehicles in the Bonn area.

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in Bonn

Our experience with Yescapa was extremely poor. The pickup location for the camper was incorrect, which caused us to lose both time and money, as we had to take an Uber to the actual location, which we essentially had to figure out ourselves. When we arrived at the Roadsurfer office, they initially refused to rent us the camper because they claimed that my driving licence had not been issued by a country accepted by the company. However, when I made the reservation through Yescapa, I provided all the required information and uploaded photos of my licence. This caused us further delays and additional expenses, as I had to pay for an international driving licence validation. Communication was also very poor. We were basically unable to get in touch with anyone to ask our questions or receive assistance regarding the issues we encountered.

Pepe was lovely from beginning to end. All of our requests were accommodated and he was responsive when needed. The pickup service was very nice, even though we were a bit delayed at the beginning (also around 23.30) he still patiently waited for us at the airport without a hassle. This made the beginning of the trip very nice and the small gift was consumed almost immediately, thank you once again. ;) The van was super also, the bad is very very comfy, I am 183 cms and it was perfect for my height. The AC is a very nice addition also, which made even the staying in the blazing sun bearable in the van. Would recommend both the host and the van to anyone!

We had a superb long weekend trip in Gonçalo’s converted van and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Gonçalo was a very friendly owner and always responded promptly to all our questions, which made everything easy and stress-free from the beginning. The van came with everything we needed and was very well prepared for our trip. It was comfortable, practical, and perfectly suited for our family of four. Gonçalo was also incredibly helpful throughout, which we really appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend both Gonçalo and his van to anyone looking for a great family campervan experience.

Mathieu was easy to communicate with and flexible. The van is perfect- simple, well organized, and very comfortable for sleeping. Mathieu equips the kitchen with some basics, and 2 camping chairs- it is really nice.
